BENNET DE KLERK, One of the most experienced guide trainers in Africa, is now hosting 5-day “wildlife weeks with Bennet de Klerk” for people who want that in-depth nature experience, but do not have time to do a full course.
During the week (which runs from Monday to Friday OR from Thursday to Monday), you will learn about mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders, scorpions… Also about trees and other fascinating plants. You will learn how to identify tracks and signs left by wildlife. Special adaptations and animal behaviour will be explained while watching animals.
Walks are undertaken in the Magaliesberg, and you will visit and explore Pilanesberg and Kgaswane, the jewels of North-West.
Keen on photography? Bring your cameras, there are lots of opportunities!
This is your chance to ask all those questions Google doesn’t have proper answers, your opportunity to learn to see and experience The Bush through the eyes of someone with a wealth of experience and knowledge… AND who knows how to share it so you can understand!
The wildlife week starts at around 14h00 on day 1. You arrive to a welcome drink and check into your accommodation, and at around 15h00 we have a small orientation and information session in the training centre, after which we embark on a short walk for an hour or two. By 18h00 you are back at your tent or room, and evening one is your own.
Days 2-4 start early, and each of the mornings entail a visit to either Pilanesberg (twice), or Kgaswane (once, full day trip). Afternoons consist of short walks on Mooihoek Mountain Retreat, our property in the Magaliesberg west of Rustenburg. You also stay here.
Two night activities are part of the week. One night we do a star talk, pointing out some interesting constellations and generally talking astronomy, and one night we go looking for scorpions, chameleons and bushbabies, as well as other nocturnal beasts!
Apart from getting proper information about all wildlife we see, birders can expect to see around 100 species for the week. You will definitely learn a fair number of bird calls.
This is probably really expensive, you are probably thinking at this point… Well, not so. By making it a self catering stay, you choose how expensive your food and drink will be, and don’t pay a fortune for a soft drink! No need to bring all at once, as there is a shopping mall about 20km from us.
We do supply cutlery and crockery, and yes, there is somebody doing the dishes, starting the campfire, cleaning the ashes and so on. And yes, there is a stove, microwave, fridge and freezer. No cash bar – bring own drinks and save!
We also have a spa on complex, so you can book massages and even beauty treatment during off times!
In terms of accommodation, there are two options. You can stay in our fully equipped flat, in semi-luxury and with private amenities. If you are more adventurous, one of our safari tents will be ideal. Bathrooms and kitchen are shared with others.
Speaking of “others”… A maximum of six participants takes part, or you can also book your own “exclusive use” week for yourself, you and your partner, or even your family.
So… For less than the price of one night at a luxury game lodge, why not invest in yourself and get four nights/five days of in-depth knowledge, in The Bush – With a really great guide!
Send an email to [email protected] for more details.
Looking forward to sharing my passion for The Bush with you!
